Generally speaking, most Christians contribute financially to the maintenance of their local church building. Unfortunately many do not contribute to the maintenance the more precious church of their physical body. A person's body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and, by receiving Communion, a tabernacle containing the Real Presence of Christ. There are many reasons for insuring the physical health of one's body, but the most compelling is the respect due to the body which is created in God's image.
We should all eat healthily and exercise. This doesn't have to be taken to the extreme. Go for a walk. Eat some fruit. Get enough sleep. You don't have to run a marathon or lift massive weights.
You don't have to lift massive weights, but I suggest that you do. Strengthening your skeletal muscles, which strengthens your bones, has many health benefits; the main one being the prevention of future injuries.
I've tried many different exercise theories, and I am trying a new one right now. I will write more about it when I'm sure that it works.
The theory that I publicly endorsed on this website was High Intensity Training (HIT), which remains on this site for reference and as a backup if this new theory proves wrong. I found that HIT works really good for around two years and then all gains stop. I've been stuck at a 405 lb. deadlift for four years. I thought I had reached my genetic potential.
The novelty of this new theory is that you don't go to failure but two reps short of failure. This in itself motivated me to start working-out again after more than a year of staying away for the gym. I don't have to psyched-up to work up anymore but can relax. In fact, getting psyched-up is counter productive according to this theory.
Like I said, I'll write more if I see favourable results. In the mean time, checkout Mike Mahler's website and Dragon Door, particularly the book Beyond Bodybuilding by Pavel Tsatsouline. I'm also reading the Warrior Diet by Ori Hofmekler.
