Few people want to talk about, or hear anything about the scourge of pornography. However, we must address this problem rather than pretend that it’s not so bad. Many families, actually, a majority of families, are negatively impacted by this easily accessible, highly addictive digital drug.
Next Sunday (May 5th) we have the opportunity to hear Bruce and Jeannie Hannemann from Reclaim Sexual Health speak honestly about the struggle and damage they experienced from Bruce’s addiction to pornography. They’ll also explain the brain science behind pornography and will reveal ways to prevent problems and to recover if one is already feeling trapped.

I was thinking that editors of English dictionaries may have some problems in the near future. I thought I’d help them out a bit in case they get a little confused. I based this on Dictionary Version 2.2.1 (143.1) © 2005-2011 Apple Inc.
homoporneous |ˌhōməˈpôrnēəs|
adjective
(of a person) lustful attraction to persons of one’s own sex
- involving or characterized by lustful attraction between persons of the same sex: homoporneous desire.
noun
a person who has lustful attractions for persons of his or her own sex.
ORIGIN early 21st century: from Greek ὁμο (homo) ‘same’ or ‘common’ + πορνεύω (porneuo) ‘indulge in unlawful lust with either sex’ and ‘practise idolatry.’

I have posted a fair bit about marriage lately, the logic behind the terms, how it can be violated, what Church law is concerning it, but I haven’t really written about what it is and its true beauty. I have referred to marriage being an icon of the Trinity and of God’s relationship with us, but never really explained how this is so. My words may have seemed harsh and demanding. Now I wish to write about love and beauty, about what inspires me to be the best person I can be, to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect.

I have a number of readers from the United States of America, and I’ve been thinking that perhaps they might be thinking that I’ve been rather harsh on their country. Don’t get me wrong, I think the U.S.A. is a pretty good country. I like Canada because, well, I’m Canadian. That doesn’t mean I’m any less harsh on Canadian governments. I mean, what’s not to like about a government that destroys all evidence of the most advanced fighter jet ever developed so all the smart people that developed it leave Canada and go work for NASA, and then buys some soon to be discontinued nuclear-tipped anti-aircraft missiles from the U.S.A. Destroy all evidence of something that could make us some money? Send all the smart people out of the country? Buy some other country’s weapon that can blow up enemy aircraft with a nuclear explosion? Let’s face it, you’ve got much better used car salesmen running your country (no offence to used car salesmen).

Some wonder how the authorities of the United States of America can be so illogical and irrational as to change the meaning of a word used to describe the very first human institution, which is a gift from God being the foundation of society and, as such, allows us to better understand and become closer to God. It may be even more puzzling when one considers the official motto of the U.S.A., “In God we trust.” Well, you see, the United States of America has a long history of illogical and irrational thought, beginning with the men that penned that motto.

Since people are really into the definition of words these days and even redefining them, I thought I’d explain the meaning of a few and try to fix the meaning of a few. The words I’m going to discuss are derived from Greek and Latin. I really don’t know much about Greek and Latin, but just enough to figure a few things out. If you are an actual Greek or Latin scholar and I make a mistake, please let me know so that I can correct it.
Homosexual:
The word homosexual is made up of the Greek word ὁμο (homo), which means “the same” or “common,” and the Latin word sexualis, which means sexual. It seems that this word was coined very recently, in the late 19th century.

Do you know what sodomy is? Wikipedia has a pretty good idea.
Sodomy is any contrasexual (contra, as in “contrary” and “contraception”) copulation-like acts such as oral or anal penetration with the male external sex organ. These are always intrinsically evil and sinful acts, even between married couples. Hence, changing the definition of the word marriage will not make sodomy moral as it is even immoral between a married man and woman.

If you know what marriage is, and you know that children are a gift from God, you should be able to figure out the meaning of the inequation and the equation on this rainbow (a Jewish and Christian symbol).

There are some Catholics that are wondering if they can receive Holy Communion if they support same sex unions. It is absolutely wonderful that they are asking themselves such a question because most Catholics receive Holy Communion regardless of if they should or not. But in a way, it is rather sad that they have to wonder about something that should be so obvious. Supporting same sex unions not only denies the sacramental nature of marriage, it denies the very essence of marriage. As well, by supporting same sex unions, even if you don’t actually call them a marriage, you are encouraging others to commit an intrinsically evil and sinful act (i.e. mortal sin). It is a mortal sin to encourage others to commit a mortal sin. If you commit a mortal sin, you cannot receive Holy Communion until you have taken this sin to Confession, otherwise you commit another mortal sin.

I first learned about St. Thomas More through the movie A Man for All Seasons. I found it very inspiring, and felt very attracted to this saint and his story. I soon discovered that I happened to have been baptized on the Feast of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More. As well, when I was in the process of becoming a Secular Franciscan, I discovered that St. Thomas More was also a Secular Franciscan. As providence would have it, the calendar worked out the year of my profession into the order that I was able to choose his feast day for the day of my profession, which was very appropriate since I also chose him as my patron saint as a Secular Franciscan.
I would encourage you to watch the movie A Man for All Seasons sometime, but for now, I ask that you watch this video clip below and then read my comment below it.
