Novena for Jennifer

Jennifer & Russell

My Jennifer is very sick. She has been for many years. I too have been sick for many years, but not anymore. Our Lady, Mediatrix of all Graces, has given me many graces from Our Lord, more than I expected; and, I’m sure there are more to come if I accept them. I pray that Our Lady give Jennifer all of the graces that Our Lord has for her. Perhaps one of these graces is the healing of her health.

Like the novena I asked for from March 11th to March 19th to Blessed John Duns Scotus for my healing, I am now asking for a novena from October 4th to October 12th for Jennifer’s healing. March 11th was the 20th anniversary of my entrance into the Catholic Church and March 20th was the 20th anniversary of the beatification of Blessed John Duns Scotus.

Blessed John Duns Scotus was a Franciscan theologian that was born a few years before the death of Saint Thomas Aquinas and died on November 8th, 1308. Aquinas is the Angelic Doctor (Doctor Angelicus) and Scotus is the Subtle Doctor (Doctor Subtilis). Some say these two great theologians disagree or even contradict each other. This is totally ridiculous. Scotus simple built upon what Aquinas had done, which was simply build upon what had come before him. Both of them simply explained the mysteries of our Faith through graces from Our Lord, which (who) came through Our Lady. Perhaps some of the mysteries Scotus explained were some of the ones that were so profound that Aquinas stopped writing and didn’t even try to explain to anyone else.

One such mystery was the Immaculate Conception. Blessed John Duns Scotus was the first to defend this doctrine successfully, which latter became a Dogma of the Faith in 1854. Another such mystery is the Absolute Primacy of Christ. While this doctrine is still open for debate, there is no contradiction between the Subtle and the Angelic Doctors, but only discussion. It is in honest discussion with openness to the truth that The Truth is given. It is good to remember that Saint Albert the Great, a Doctor of the Church and a teacher of Thomas Aquinas, also took the side that Duns Scotus would take and later explaine.

There is another doctrine that the Subtle Doctor helps explain by building upon the work of the Angelic Doctor: Mary as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate. Many believe that this is the time for this doctrine to be proclaimed a dogma, and both the Subtle Doctor and the Angelic Doctor can help us understand this new dogma. It would be of great assistance in our education if the Subtle Doctor has not just been beatified, but also canonized as a saint and officially declared a Doctor of the Church.

Please join me in this novena to Blessed John Duns Scotus for the healing of Jennifer. October 4th is the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the founder of my order and the order of Blessed John Duns Scotus. Pope Francis also took his name from Saint Francis of Assisi during the novena that I had asked for myself. October 13th is the anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fátima in 1917. It is also on October 13th that Pope Francis will consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

You may also like to know that Jennifer was baptized on August 13th (the one month on which the Fátima apparitions did not take place on the 13th) in Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Edmonton.
